PYGMEES Brand is distributed throughout stores in Europe, Argentina, Canada, United States, Mexico, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia and Australia.
The founder and designer is Didier Chekroun, originating from France and now based in Bali Indonesia.
The company is located in Vaison la Romaine, France.
BIO
Didier, born in 1969, studied at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Politiques et Sociales. He imagines, designs and manufactures the clothes in Indonesia.
After several trips to different continents, and absorbing diverse cultures, he created in 1995 the brand Pygmees de la Lune. The brand reflects a fun, street wear and ethnic lifestyle. The first store was opened in Buis les Baronnies, France.
Also sold in Avignon during the festival, Pygmees quickly acquired a strong base of regular customers who love original, comfortable, colorful and affordable clothes.
Word of mouth allowed Pygmees to broaden its impact in the South of France.
In 2000, many retailers started carrying the brand.
In 2002, the distribution company was set up in Vaison la Romaine, France.
The warehouse allows the handling of the distribution worldwide, the showroom welcomes all the textile professionals to discover the new collections, and the PYGMEES FACTORY store sells the brand at discounted prices.
THE STATE OF MIND
Didier lives in Bali (place of production), where its imagination, business mindset, and know how of the Indonesian staff give birth to original and great quality collections.
In partnership with manufacturing factories for more than 10 years, he actively participates to the economical development of the island.
THE BRAND
The idea is to create clothing and accessories full of colors, comfortable fabrics, original designs and contemporary style.
Didier’s musician background, Jazz and funk, influenced by 70s and 80s fashions, allowed him to create original and colorful collections.
The clothes styles are often a little crazy, psychedelic and round shaped.
He often draws from ethnic styles and associates them with more urban, street wear, relaxed and elegant ideas.
Today, the clothes are inspired by more electronic music.
2 collections a year : Spring/Summer, Fall/Winter, between 120 and 160 different styles are available.
Sizes go from XS to XXL for women, S to XL for men.
Many fabrics are used: cotton, nagata, ottoman, fleece, polyester…..
Since 2007, a new line is available, PYGMEES KIDS, for children between 2 and 12 years old.
Word of mouth played a major role in the expansion of Pygmees.
The brand never invested in expensive advertising campaigns, keeping our cost low.
In 2007, Pygmees started attending the Paris Trade Show, and will attend ever year from now on.
For winter 08/09, Pygmees will also offer a jewelry line.
