Shamanic Project

The Shamanic Project is developing a fair to wear fahion label project in Mali, West Africa. The project is run through Liminal Institute for Social Transfusion, Creative and Applied Science from Slovenia, Europe.
Shamanic is creating a fusion of western design with traditional African fabrics.
Shamanic clothing is a social enterprise set up by myself Monique Drinkwater (project leader) and Spela Kalcic, Dr of Anthropology from Slovenia Europe (Director of Liminal Institute).
Spela and I met in Bamako Mali in July 2011 and discovered we both share a passion for African fabrics and textiles, culture and the people, and were so inspired by the spirit and skill of the West African artisans, that we decided to join forces and create fashion and objects de Art, that would sell to western markets. All fashion made in Mali or Morocco and the proceeds raised from the clothing will go back into The Shamanic Project to build trade oppounities for Malian tailors and designers.
Our current goals are to increase trade oppotunities for Malian desginers, tailors and artisans, pay fair wages and to form a fun and inspirational way of developing local peoples skills and talents and marketing them in the west. Our moto “Helping Others to Help Themselves” and “Thinking with Your Hands”. The development of a creative HUB, an autonomous space where we can all work together, eat together and create clothing and accessories under the banner of Shamanic is our goal. Currently working toward this goal by selling global designers clothing creations. Fantastic is donating a % of funds raised by these sales to the NGO and using the backing of the Australian crowdfunding website Pozible ,to raise money for sewing machings and overlockers.
Now in early days of development and currently traveling to and from Mali, meeting tailors, developing patterns and creating a collection of clothing for a local buisness, “The Sleeping Camel Hotel”, this particular project is about the developement of young local people in buisness. Locals people working at the Sleeping Camel will manage the project under the supervision of the Sleeping Camel owner . The project consists of a tour to buy material, meeting with our tailor and discussing designs and having a made to measure fitting. The outcome a quality garment of African and Western fusion fashion, at a fair price, a cultural experience from from the conception to birth of the product and the support of development of local African people in buisness through The Shamanic Project.
Shamanic are working with local tailors and some patterns have been donated to the project by a designer/seamstress from Benin, Natacha who is the owner and developer of Bamako Sur Mesure, an established and high quality made to measure company situated in Bamako Mali.
Bamako Sur Mesure for Shamanic will be the promotional name and the collection will be known as the “Shamanic Sleeping Camel Collection”.
